Welcome to Ventura County Library’s Plant a Seed, Read Summer Reading Program for Kids & Teens!

This exciting summer program encourages lifelong reading habits, learning, creativity, and community connection through fun activities and reading challenges. The program runs June 1 - August 1. 

How it works: Earn points by completing activities on the Summer Reading Game Card from June 1 - August 1. 

Summer Reading Prize Store Update: Thanks to an incredible response to this year's Summer Reading Program, participation blew past our expectations! It's an exciting problem to have, but it meant our Prize Store sold out faster than we anticipated. We know that was disappointing for families who missed out. Good news: A limited selection of new prizes goes live Monday, July 27. Our goal is to give participants who haven’t redeemed their hard-earned points the chance to do so. The Prize Store will reopen for this group at 10 a.m. This will be the final Prize Store update for the summer. Thank you for reading, and for making this our best Summer Reading Program yet!

You can log your reading minutes but points are only earned by checking off the reading milestone boxes on your Game Card. Earn points by checking off the Finish 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 Reading Minutes Game Card boxes. 

We encourage everyone to participate, explore new books and activities, and make reading part of their summer adventure!

This program encourages families to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten. 

This reading challenge for teens is to encourage students ages 13 to 18 to read 100 books before they graduate from high school!

Support learning from birth to age 5 with an early literacy challenge by reading, singing, talking, writing, and playing! Using the five simple but effective practices, parents and caregivers can help children develop early literacy skills that will get them ready to read.

Read 100 books together and track completed activities throughout the year to help establish a strong foundation for early literacy and complete this program!

NASA is taking the first step in the next era of human exploration with the Artemis spaceflight program! In ancient Greek mythology, Artemis was the goddess of the Moon and twin sister to the sun god Apollo. Much like NASA’s Apollo program, which took humans to the Moon in the 1960s and 1970s, the Artemis program will take humans, including the first woman and the first person of color, back to the Moon and prepare us for traveling to Mars and beyond for the first time.
